Considering that the “Big 3″ and Detroit has been the topic of news lately this recent article is no suprise, but not necessarily a negative one. TreeHugger.com posted a little blurb questioning some aspects of another negative article about Detroit and the authors visit there.
“Detroit is on a lot of people’s minds these days, what with the bailouts and the auto show. TreeHugger has looked at Detroit real estate before, questioning how such a valuable asset could be left to rot like this. Economist Ryan Avent has an idea: “a bunch of us new media types should pack up and head to Detroit, where we could all buy mansions for $1000.”
–
“The idea is this — if enough people of a certain productive potential move to Detroit, then Detroit will begin exercising an attractive force. In response to the growing population of people, supportive infrastructure will grow up. Employers will follow or start-up from among the migrants. Consumption options reflecting migrant taste will appear. And eventually the whole show will become self-sustaining. People who want to be in the industry involved or related industries will move there, employers who want to employ such people will move there, and so on and so forth.”
Easier said than done, but this is a good point to consider. Perhaps in 5-10 years Detroit will be an entirely new city with the same positive experiences to offer both locals and visitors that it was once known for.
Rep. your city,

When I was back home I took a trip over to see my relatives on the opposite side of the state. The weather tried to keep us down a few times so we had to rescheduled the rip to the week after Christmas. We finally met up a the local diner for some lunch and good conversation.
I had to order the local Michigan delicacy, breaded Perch and pair it with a solid club sammich.
My sister and I were really excited to see my grandmother. I’m ashamed to admit it but it had been a long time since I last saw her, so our reunion was long overdue. We talked about the old times and the new. More on the new side regarding my life in San Francisco, new adventures and whats to come from The Syndicate.
As we left, on the way out, we noticed the small museum-like collection of cool animals.
You have to love Michigan and all the exciting things to see. Just look at all of those places to check out!
Cheers,
-K
Its been a busy week, but I made some time to watch the hometown World Champion Red Wings play the Columbus Blue Jackets this past Tuesday at the Joe. Columbus played the Wings tough for two periods, but couldn’t match the the intensity as the Red Wings scored two goals in the third period and then added an empty netter to defeat the Blue Jackets by a total of 3 goals.
Before the game we had dinner at Roma’s an Italian restaurant, which was founded in 1890 and easily one of the oldest establishments in Detroit. Its blocks away from the Joe and has some of the best Lasagna I have ever had. I highly recommend it.
Looking forward to my next game,
-W
Today was the opening day of Macworld and true to rumor Mr. Jobs was a no show. But the new 17″ Aluminum Macbook did make an appearance as well as a few new software updates to iLife, iWork and iTunes. So on the note of the new Apple decided to honor Mr. Tony Bennett and close with his version “The best is yet to come”.
Back to work,

I was presently surprised to open this one of a kind shadow box Christmas morning. My parents arranged this detailed box to showcase The Syndicate’s inaugural product, the Declare KIT. What a creative gift, thanks Mom & Dad!
This past year has been an interesting one in many respects. Before pushing into 2009 I think it is beneficial to take a step back and reflect on the past year. For us its been a year of motivating accomplishment.
We want to thank each one of you who have made this a year to remember. Its not everyday you start a company, and to be honest its the most challenging thing I have done to date. However, its the continued support of all of you that makes it so worth it.
We are now more motivated than ever and this next year is slated to be even bigger than the past.
Enjoy the ride in 2009!

In a last minute scurry I tried to get all my gear together so I can take advantage of the snowboarding out west.
I was pretty pumped once I found my trusty goggles. Now hopefully I can find the time to get a couple Tahoe trips in soon.
Anyways, I’m off on a jet plane headed back to SF from DET.
Until next time Michigan,

Sometimes this is a traditional event during the holidays and I’m sure some families gather around and starting singing carols as they garnish the tree. Well maybe that’s only in the Lifetime channel movies. But the tree has always been my favorite part of the theme of Christmas and over the years we’ve gained plenty of ornaments, so much that there isn’t enough time or room to show them all. So my sister and I chose our favorites this year.
I wish my train set still worked so I could set that up under the tree with the traditional Christmas gift tunnel. Might have to bring that one back next year…
