Stepping back for a moment to take a look around. Sometimes just doing that can be as simple as staring at the ceiling.

Taking on a start up across country is hard enough. Working on projects with people on the opposite side of the world is even more difficult, but where there’s a will there’s a way. Right?

We’re working on a new project with our distant friend Kristian, you may recall him here. As an intro, I wanted to share this particular image since it captures the keen eye and bold aesthetic that Kristian has with his photography.

“The Rain In Spain” – Granada, Spain. Christmas night. Photo By Kristian Woods

Although he would never claim to be a professional, his photos combined with the actual experience behind them make for a pretty soild story. One that many different perspectives can appreciate.

The project is a celebration of Kristian’s experience abroad and a welcome home of sorts. As we wrap up the final details Kristian is traveling from Morocco through The Netherlands before he finally returns home to the United States.

Stay tuned and safe travels,

For those of you who remember Brad, he is now my new roomie here is SF. The other day while picking up some new snow gear we started geekin’ out on all of the undiscovered terrain we have yet to experience in Tahoe.

Post_135_1

This shot was one that Brad took of his brother and I on a boarding trip in New York. We used to go out for hours and take photos for fun. Sometimes it was directly related to some art class project and others it was an excuse to go out and just explore with our cameras.

I can’t help but laugh looking back at those times and recalling that we had no clue what we were doing in terms of photography or even content for that matter. That was the least of our concerns. We just wanted to check out the areas of town that people avoided and see what kind of shots we could capture before the end of the day.

Like this one.

Then we would take the photos and see what happened once they went digital.

The over filtered aesthetic of this master piece wasn’t enough. I had to add my class schedule from that semester and peppered it in to give it a little extra kick. Awesome.

For as amateur as it appears it does remind me of how fun and carefree the process was back then.

New chapters and new changes here in SF but its still the same story.

I recently moved into a new place so things have been pretty busy and some what disorganized. There is no way around it, MOVING SUCKS. New places are exciting but getting there and settling in takes some work. No matter how much or how little you have, making the effort to move and keep things in order is not easy.

It’s now been close to two and a half years since I moved out here to California with four boxes and a few suitcases full of clothes. Since then I’ve traveled a bit, moved up here to SF and gained a few extra belongings to show for it.

I would never consider myself a “sneakerhead” but for those who know me lately I do enjoy a few flavors of the New Balance 574. A Mid-weight, casual, supposedly “retro” and most of all affordable shoe. The Nikes and Jordans of the shoe world certainly all have they’re place but I’m pretty sure I’ll be a fan of the 574 for quite awhile.

Speaking of collecting, I’ve been in the habit of picking up a few extra hats lately for some future research.

Stay tuned,

Check out this Nov. cover of THE NEW YORKER by comic artist Chris Ware .

The_New_Yorker

Clever and True. Chris did a great job of predicting the social door to door scene of this past weekend’s Halloween ritual. The children’s faces highlighted by the glow of candy givers and the parental units not far behind. The brilliance in this image is the highlight, showing the allure of the children for treats and the parents need to stay connected. Maybe the adults intended to dress up as Zombies?

Well done,

This treasure took some time to track down, but it was well worth the wait.

Post_131_1

This was our Sandlot crew. Top to bottom you have, Z behind the plate, Payne was the closer, Dreuth and Most swept the field at first. Tucker was a solid third and Fox kept it fast at the turn. Griffin was the motivator calling the shots from home. Dorhout was always up and McWilliams had a nasty hanger. Lance and Murray were both heavy hitters. And finally you have wilds cards Blair and Witz, those guys we’re everywhere.

Oh and don’t forget these two charmers. Actually, William and I first became friends shortly after joining this group.

Post_131_2

This 1996 All-Star team was the beginning of it all. Unaware at the time but this team was the catalyst that created many life-long friendships. After playing a few solid years of baseball the group shown above was split down the middle into two rival high schools. Collectively, William and I still keep in touch with most of the team to this very day. Fast forward to 2009 and those little leaguers are now grown professionals pursuing their passions as lead guitarist, doctors and even airline pilots.

For William and I, baseball was a key part of our adolescence. Efficient communication and aligned teamwork was and still is, in our minds, the only way to win. These values directly coincide with the roots behind The Syndicate. In the end, it’s not about the individual success, it’s the celebration of the group effort.

Game on,

-K
